What’s PAWS up to this year?

PAWS (Parents Active Within Schools) was started two years ago to help build bridges between schools and parents (and other community members!). The group meets on the third Thursday of every month and uses a workgroup model to “get things done.”

Pure Food Pure Change –  PFPC will continue to integrate health and wellness to our students and families so that we can move from awareness to action and have healthy lifestyles BE the norm in the Lake County School District and the Leadville/Lake County Community.

Safe Routes to School- Contact- This group will be mapping the school district walk zone and prioritizing improvements that will make it safer for children to walk or bike to school. The Planning Committee will meet Sept. 10th to plan for a Community Assessment Day on Sept.28th. Have time to help us put on the Community Assessment Day? Contact us to let us know you can help! Willing to join us on Sept. 28th to take a walk and help us imagine a safer walk zone? Mark your calendar!

District Accountability/Academic Achievement/GT- This group of parents and community members works to advise the school district and school board on improving educational outcomes. Accountability includes several subgroups, including one working on advising the Gifted and Talented program. All are welcome!

Teacher Appreciation- Chair, This group is working to ensure each and every staff member of Lake County School District feels appreciated for their hard work.

Lake County Middle School Playground-This group is working to design and fund a new playground for the Lake County Middle School. It has received grants from The Summit Foundation and Great Outdoors Colorado, in addition to contributions from The City of Leadville, Lake County, The Lake County School District–and many citizens, kids, parents, and businesses.

School Safety– This group is working on preventing bullying in schools and at bus stops.

The September District Accountability and PAWS Meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 19th District Accountability will meet from 5:00pm-6:30pm. Dinner will be served at 6:15pm. PAWS work groups will start at 6:30pm Please feel free to bring your family for our free dinner. We will also have free babysitting and translation.
