It’s time for sports physicals again! The 5th annual sports physicals event will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 pm at the Lake County Intermediate School. Physicals are required for all students playing sports. Medical providers and other volunteers from Lake County will be donating their time and only ask for a $10 donation. This money is then donated to Project Dream 21st Century Community Learning Centers to keep our after school programs going. A parent must be present in order to participate. Reservations are not accepted. It is first come first served.
This year Avalanche PT and Sports Rehabilitation (Frisco and Copper Mountain Clinic Locations) will be offering a software tool called ImPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) for an additional $15. ImPACT is a computerized exam utilized in many professional, collegiate, and high school sports programs across the country to injury and when the injury has fully healed.
The computerized exam is given to athletes before the beginning of the contact sport season. This non-invasive test is set up in “video-game” type format and takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. It is simple, and actually many athletes enjoy the challenge of taking the test. Essentially, the ImPACT test is a preseason physical of the brain. It tracks information successfully diagnose and manage concussions. If an athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury during competition, ImPACT can be used to help determine the severity of head such as memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration. It, however, is not an IQ test.
You must arrive before 7 pm if you would like to do the ImPACT test.
