Program/Service Access: Concerns about a students should be brought to Child Find. Contact BOCES with general questions about the Special Education process or global services like vision disability, deaf/hard-of-hearing, and audiology.
The evaluation may include: physical, speech, academic, cognitive, vision, hearing, and social/emotional assessments. The evaluation may be a formal assessment, informal assessment, or a parent interview. It is generally play-based. We are able to provide immediate results to families regarding their child’s development. We also connect families to Early Intervention Services, Mountain Valley Developmental Services, and the Preschool Program at Pitts Elementary if they qualify or are eligible for these services.

Mountain Valley Developmental Services provides services to identify children with developmental delays and assists families to enhance the development of children with developmental delays.

Cost: State, federal, and insurance dollars are used to provide the service at no cost to families.

Times: Appointments can be made during the business week; case managers and providers usually go to the child’s home.
Program/Service Access: To address concerns with your child’s development, we work together with the school districts’ Child Find program. Once a child is determined to be demonstrating a 25% delay in any domain of development, or has an established condition, we can provide ongoing developmental intervention and case management. These Early Intervention services are provided to children who are under the age of 3 years old. In addition, MVDS also offers the Family Support Services Program to families with a child enrolled in our services and who meet the Level of Need indicators.
Mountain Valley Developmental Services is the Community Centered Board that serves persons with developmental disabilities throughout their lifespan. We provide case management services, programs for children, and residential and life enhancement programs for adults. We are the legislative designated entity that determines eligibility for Part C (of the Individuals with Disability Education Act) as well as eligibility for persons ages 5 and older who meet the state definition of having a developmental disability. We serve Garfield, Lake, Eagle and Pitkin Counties.
