Want to know what PAWS workgroups are up to? Read on!
Pure Food, Pure Change: Members of this group are working with the new Health and Wellness Coordinator to issue a health and wellness survey.
Safe Routes to School: This group held a Community Assessment Day on September 28th to help compile information about the safety of the Lake County School District walk zone. With the help of a GIS/Geography graduate student at CU, they will be compiling this information along with information about what routes students are using most often. Ultimately, this information will be used to write grants to improve the school district walk zone.
Teacher Appreciation: This group will be working to provide snacks for teachers during October conferences.
Lake County Middle School Playground: This group has raised over $167,000 to date and is continuing to write grants in order to be able to fund the construction of Phases I and II this summer. It will be issuing a Request for Proposals soon for an architect/engineer to provide construction-ready designs for the project.
School Safety: In addition to PAWS meetings, this group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 8 am to 9:30 am in the AMAX room of the Lake County Public Library. Its next activity will be surveying parents at conferences on the issue of school safety.
The next PAWS meeting will be at 6:30 at the Lake County Middle School, immediately following the 5 pm District Accountability meeting.
